Look, it’s 2026. By all accounts, I should have moved on from Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3. Maybe I should be in a rehabilitation centre for gamers who can’t let go of old campaigns, but here I am, dodging imaginary bullets through Open Combat Areas because I’m a completionist with a hunger for bronze trophies. If you’ve ever tried to unlock the Bulletproof achievement, you know the pain: twelve plate carrier upgrades, scattered across six missions, each one hiding like it’s playing a practical joke on you. So, let me save your sanity and tell you where to find these things – because if I had to suffer through this, you should at least profit from my misery.

These Open Combat Area missions dropped us into unmapped sections that felt less like tactical playgrounds and more like scavenger hunts devised by a sadist. You start with a single-plate vest that makes you feel about as protected as a wet paper bag. Find an upgrade, and suddenly you can take an extra hit. Find both in a mission, and you’re a walking tank. But missing one means replaying entire missions while swearing at inanimate objects. So why do we do it? Because that Bulletproof trophy taunts us, that’s why. Let’s walk through each location. Yes, even in 2026, I still get lost.
Precious Cargo – Container Hell
My first mistake was thinking containers were just scenery. The first upgrade sits inside a blue shipping container in grid D-8, but of course it’s the one stacked on top of another. I spent ten minutes running around it before realising the game wanted me to climb. North side, look for a supply crate, hoist yourself up, and grab it. The second upgrade in Precious Cargo mocks you from E-7, inside a building on the east side of a room, right next to a supply crate. You’ll see it and think, “Was that always there?” Yes, yes it was.

Reactor – Where Fire and Frustration Mix
The first upgrade in Reactor is in the warehouse at B-2, ground floor. You’ll also find an ascender nearby, as if the game is hinting “you’re gonna need this to climb away from your shame.” The second one, though, is the kind of location that makes you question your own eyes. It’s in the fire station at D-6. On the first floor. Hanging on a coat rack. Enter from the west windows and just stare at its audacity. A plate carrier on a coat rack? Who are we, firefighters with tactical gear? Doesn’t matter. Grab it and don’t ask questions.

Crash Site – Chairs Are Not for Sitting
I have a personal grudge against E-5 on Crash Site. The first vest sits on top of a chair in a storage room behind a building that also holds a weapon crate. I walked past that chair three times because chairs are for sitting, not for armour storage. The second upgrade hides in D-4, in the northwest room of a house. It’s almost polite compared to the chair.

Oligarch – Rich People’s Armor
Guarding an HVI apparently means leaving plate carriers lying around at bars. The first upgrade in Oligarch sits in D-4, near the heavy armoured guard and the HVI, by the short end of the bar. Finish your firefight and then ask yourself, “Was the barkeep planning to double-tap me?” The second one requires you to go outside to C-2, by the fountain leading to the mansion. Look behind a blue SUV. Whoever hid these things clearly didn’t want them found, but also wanted them to be Instagrammable with nice backgrounds.

Highrise – Vertical Nonsense
Highrise is where my blood pressure peaked. The first plate upgrade is on the sixth floor in D-4, in a laundry room. A laundry room. I’m supposed to believe operators do washing cycles between gunfights? Fine. The second one is on the seventh floor east end, behind a stuck door in G-3/G-4. You can’t just open it; you have to follow the wall left, find a broken wall, and shoot a chair out from behind the door. Yes, shoot furniture to access armour. It’s like an escape room designed by an intern.

Gora Dam – Truckin’ for Survival
Finally, Gora Dam. Developers said, “Let’s put them in trucks.” The first upgrade is in C-5, in the back of an open cargo truck on the northwest road by the bomb bunker. Climb in back like you’re loading furniture. The second is another truck in H-4, in a parking lot north of the big H-5 building. It’s a white cargo truck with two weapon crates, making you feel like you stumbled onto a smuggler’s stash.

So after all that, do you feel bulletproof? Or just mentally exhausted? I’ve unlocked the achievement more times than I care to admit, and every run I still ask, “Why is this upgrade in a laundry room?” But that’s the joy (or curse) of 2023’s MW3 campaign – it turned us all into armour-hunting detectives. Now it’s 2026 and I’m still writing guides for it. What does that say about me? Probably that I need to stop playing and go outside, but at least I’ll go outside with a bronze trophy in my heart.
